Note from the artist
Before it became a national park, Yellowstone was known as a land of fire and steam, home to the Wind River Shoshone. Jim Bridger and other frontiersmen first explored this region in the 19th century. While they returned home with stories of bursting geysers, bubbling mud pots, and rainbow-colored hot pots, few believed them
The Hayden survey of 1871 captured photographic proof of the area's beauty. In 1872, President Ulysses S. Grant established the region as a national park.
This map features intricate park details, including landmarks, historic buildings, and other sites. See if you can find them all.
